Last night, the world watched Oprah interview Harry and Meghan. Despite overtures from Oprah’s people, Scott and Tim decided to forgo a moderator for the latest episode of Monday Madness. But the Supreme Executive Committee of Lent Madness is back with another action-packed, fun-filled episode of saintly merriment. Today they explain how the bracket of 32 saints is chosen, revealing heretofore secret details of the selection process. Perhaps even using the “Royal We” in the process.
They also answer a question from Twitter about the behind-the-scenes life of the Celebrity Bloggers. Oh, and Scott takes a sip from his Martha of Bethany 2019 Golden Halo winner coffee mug. Would it even be Monday Madness without some product placement?
Last, but not least, the Supreme Executive Committee again demonstrates its mastery of the Welsh accent.

I am horrified! Nay, shocked that you dared to diss Tea Drinking Saints. We are Episcopalians! We are in Full Communion with the See of Canterbury in England, the home of Tea Drinking Saints. In fact, even in our own hymnal we sing of the Saints of God whom we can meet AT TEA!

Tim and Scott – this week’s Monday Madness explanation of who sees the saintly bracket for “quality control” before it’s announced wouldn’t have anything to do with the mountain of criticism directed at you for the first round matchup of Henriette DeLille vs. Absalom Jones, would it? ‘Oh, we aren’t the only ones….yes we might have blind spots but the Bracket Czar and the Scholar and the Distinguished Celebrity Bloggers review it too ….. so they are equally to blame?’ Nice try Tim and Scott but a little obvious.
Please, please, please keep Melangell going — hearing Tim and Scott (and ANYONE, for that matter) pronouncing her name is too much fun!! Plus, she’s a pretty cool saint, and deserving of the golden halo.

What do you mean – tea drinkers cannot be included as saints in Lent Madness? That would seem to exclude any saints from the British Isles or Ireland. As one who has a smidgen of Irish ancestry and who became so horribly ill after drinking a cup of coffee in the early 1980s that I have never drunk another cup of coffee since then, I protest! I greatly enjoy my tea and it agrees with my not-so-delicate constitution.
It’s bad enough that many establishments – churches, restaurants, and convention centers – use carafes that once held coffee to provide hot water for tea. The result is tea tainted by the undesirable flavor of coffee. An abomination, I say. I did not expect that the Supreme Executive Committee of Lent Madness to promote such mistreatment of tea drinkers.
End discrimination against tea-drinking saints now!

Laura, you said it! Lukewarm water, from coffee-saturated carafes, poured over cheap teabags is the ultimate in lack of true Anglican hospitality. Plus you usually have to ask for it, while for coffee drinkers, it’s right up front, easy access, with all the additions a coffee-loving soul could want. PLUS, the ultimate insult, most churches don’t know the difference between a coffee cup and a tea cup. So sad. That said, I doubt many churches could afford to stock their cupboards with the differentiated chocolate, coffee, and tea cups. As for me, when I make myself tea, I like to sip it without having to go to the kitchen to replenish my supply. Horror of horrors: I drink tea in a coffee mug!
Well, Laura, much as I hate to admit it, so do I. The bigger the better. But it was fun playing snob for a few minutes. On the side of honesty, it’s important to say that I gave up coffee because I started reacting badly to it. I’ve learned to like tea, especially green tea, but I do miss my coffee. At the same time, Scott and Tim left themselves wide open to the outrage of tea drinkers everywhere. We should band together and demand humble, groveling apologies and an entire episode of Monday Madness devoted to tea, don’t you think?
