Monday Madness — March 2, 2020

In the first in-season episode of Lent Madness 2020, Tim and Scott offer globe-spanning, action-packed commentary for you, the Lent Madness global viewing public. They highlight the raging Lent Madness excitement in places such as Kuala Lumpur and Terre Haute, two locations which have, perhaps, never before been placed in the same sentence. At least in the context of an online Lenten devotion.

Check out this article in the Tribune-Star about how Lent Madness has taken over at St. Stephen’s Church in the aforementioned Terre Haute.

The Supreme Executive Committee also issues the first reminder of the season that each person gets one vote only. No cheating, because BIG LENT IS WATCHING. You are encouraged to rally your neighbors, co-workers, family members, and random people you meet on public transportation to vote your way, however. Thanks to our hard-working Celebrity Bloggers, each day brings brilliant saintly write-ups for your reading and voting pleasure. Keep reading and voting. We’re just getting the penitential party started!

This is here for social media sharing.

Thank you for reminding us to do that which is right – in voting and in all things.

My husband is from Terre Haute! Thanks for the shout out to a place that sometimes is much maligned!

On the first day, I didn’t get my email. So a friend forwarded hers. When I voted through hers, did her vote count twice? Maybe it was an unintentional cheat!

The votes are not connected to the email. The emails are just for those who do not want to have to remember to go directly to lentmadness.org (the www. part is unnecessary on most browsers) on a daily basis.

It is the IP address the vote comes from that matters as I recall. (For questions about your IP address consult your Internet service provider.)

James, obviously (or not) you’ve never heard of Havre de Grace, MD!?

Yes, and people pronounce it “Havver de Grayce.”

You might want to tell the public what to do if several people share a house/computer and each wants to vote. I have been asked by members of my church where parents are living with their children and not everyone has a computer of his/her own. I thought that had been mentioned before, but a refresher would be helpful.

I think you must appeal directly to the SEC for guidance. I don’t think there’s any way to trick the system otherwise! It is a problem, though if the kids all have smart phones (don’t they?:-) ) that works fine.

I just like laughing and smiling during Lent! Thank you “Big Lent is Watching,” the purple towers in Kuala Lumpur filled with Lent Madness fans, and the middle of night dedication of the Supreme Exec. Committee. Thank you for bringing me closer to the saints that have followed Jesus and demonstrating, especially to Episcopalians, that evangelism is not scary, it’s fun! This is the second year in a row I’m smiling as part of my Lenten discipline, such a gift! I look forward to every Monday Madness in Lent, no pressure!

Like many otherwise commendable newspaper articles, Terre Haute has an error. The 2017 winner of the Golden Halo was Diedrich Bonhoeffer, not Franz Jagerstatter. But a nice article nonetheless.

Scott, Thank you so much for your dedication to being the Lent Madness evangelist in Kuala Lumpar! Speaking of emojis, Lent Madness needs one! I pray some creative mind out there in Lent Madness fandom can come up with one, two or maybe even three! Oh, three has a sort of trinitarian theme to it, don’t you think?
