Monday Madness — March 16, 2020

This week, even in the midst of a crisis that seems to bring new disruptions every day, Tim and Scott are here with another action-packed, fact-filled episode of Monday Madness. They remind you that Lent Madness will be here to offer you online community and a measure of joy just when many people are craving these things. By the way, Lent Madness shared several useful resources for practicing faith at home on Saturday, and we encourage you to revisit that post.

In Saintly Smackdown action, the Round of the 32 ends this week with the epic battle between the Patron Saint of Television vs. the Patron Saint of the Internet. Just in time for everyone to be stuck at home, we’ll help you figure out whether it’s better to pass your time on the internet or watching television.

On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, this episode features zero mentions of the famous saint, since he suffered an ignominious defeat at the hands of Brother Lawrence a few days ago. If you’re looking for past results — or future match-ups — check out the Bracket tab of the Lent Madness website, where you’ll discover past results, a daily updated bracket, and a calendar of upcoming match-ups.

If you enjoy the Madness, we encourage you to invite others to join us. This might be just the burst of levity your friends and neighbors are craving. Surely, everyone wants to be a part of what is now the World’s Biggest Bracket Competition and World’s Most Venerable Bracket Competition, at 11 (consecutive!) years running.

This is here for social media sharing — which is different from social distancing.

    Hello Tim and Scott,
I am totally sure that you have all this data stuff figured out… but am I right in thinking that the first person on your list for the day gets the most votes? Hopefully it just seems that way, and I’m wrong. But you would know. Blessings in this crazy time, and it’s good to remember that the saints lived in crazy times, too. Blessings, Lindsay

In these crazy times I find the Lent Madness a wonderful break from the media rush to the frenzy. I look forward to expanding my biblical knowledge and actual miss it on the weekends. I must admit I usually end up voting for what comes out to be the underdog. Trying to strip it down to the human element and interaction with our Lord doesn’t always make you popular. It has spakered my interest to do some additional investigating of our doctrine. I do look daily for my dose Bible fun. Thanks

Is there an undetected bias in the positioning on the page?

Now that NCAA March Madness has been cancelled, are you on the lookout for gamblers seeking betting opportunities? How does the Supreme Council feel about Lent Madness being monetized?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I would like to give a shout out to Maestro Shiloh Roby. Every Monday, in addition to looking Forward to what Tim and Scott have to say, I give thanks for the rousing organ accompaniment to the credits. I’ve even been know to play the end twice just because it makes me feel good to hear that music – now more than ever.

Thank you, Tim and Scott, for your labor of Lenten love. Also, I enjoyed your reflection, Tim, during Morning Prayer yesterday. Thank you!

Tim, your book (Dustbunnies) told me to wish folks a HOLY Lent not a “happy” Lent and yet you did just that in the video I just watched. What am I to think? There is already so much uncertainty to deal with – how am I to deal with this dichotomy??? And for sure this is NOT a happy Lent. I can’t even go to church.

    Greetings!
What video system are you using? Is it good old Facetime, or Skype, or…? I’d like to know, because the audio and video are very good. I think I’m going to want to see people, not just email/text/Facebook with them.
    Thank you very much,
    Jane

As we wrestle with worry and sadness
    What a blessing to still have Lent Madness;
    Finding joy and relief
    In our common belief,
As we wait for that time we share gladness.

Dear Supremes, Thank you for Lent Madness; I have enjoyed participating several years now and am especially appreciative to be part if this community at this time. May I humbly ask…Any chance of Maestro Shiloh Roby playing an added tune or two during the season? His music lifts my spirits.
    Blessings,

Thank you for offering us spiritual relief and joy to see what others (saints) have done to stay close to Christ, in times of uncertainty.

This is incredibly fun, entertaining, and yes, I admit it, educational. Never before did I realize there WAS a Golden Halo, let alone so very many worthy and potential winners! I have a question for all: So far, who do you believe to be the biggest bracket buster? I will reward the saint with the most votes with a virtual fist bump.

I can’t vote either. Enjoyed everything else.

Thank you for doing this year after year! I don’t know if you are familiar with the ‘Sisters Late Night Catechism’ series of plays- if not, you should!! They are hilarious. Well, last year, after participating in Lent Madness, I went to one of the Sisters’ plays! Because of what I learned through Lent Madness, I WON and glow in the dark, plastic rosary!!! It is proudly hanging on my rear view window!!!
