Monday Madness — February 19, 2018

It’s Monday, and that means it’s time for a new episode of Monday Madness! This week, Scott and Tim bask in the glow of the first full week of saintly voting. They also highlight a change introduced this year, themed quadrants in the bracket. Finally, there’s a shout-out for St. David’s Episcopal Church in Austin, TX for their wonderful (and large) embrace of the Madness.

Remember, you can check the match-up calendar on the bracket tab of the Lent Madness website, where you can find out when your favorite saints step into the Lent Dome and who they’ll be battling. Also check the bracket tab for each day’s results, featuring one-of-a-kind headlines, brought to you by our Bracket Czar, Adam Thomas.

This is here for social media sharing. No more, no less.

The voting buttons become visible after you click on the text that says “see more” or words to that effect.

On the right sidebar under “GET LENT MADNESS BY EMAIL!” Thats where you register. Only registrants are allowed to vote. Voting is via the daily email you receive.

Actually, you don’t have to be registered to vote. We believe in universal suffrage! (though signing up for emails insures you never miss a vote)

Hmmm… I missed the first day because I could not, for the life of me, find the match up making me believe registration was a requirement.

Sometimes I don’t get the emails. I have for many years, so I’m not sure what is going on. How can I make sure that I am still a “registered voter”? Lol!

Regarding Maestro Roby’s new theme music: what is the “closing hymn”–the recessional, if you will–of the Lent Madness videos? The opening music–processional, so to speak–still is reminiscent of “When the Saints Go Marching In”, but the closing is elusive.
I like the new music, even though I really got a kick out of “Forty Days….”

I’m pretty sure it still is “Forty Days”– ever so cleverly arranged. I like this as much as the previous version. It was running through my head yesterday when we sang the traditional one–which, unlike this, does not make me want to shout “Hotcha!” at the end.

Thanks, Peg. I thought I caught whatever the aural equivalent of glimpses is, but very cleverly disguised.
I, too loved the old arrangement.

Nancy and I share an email account. I want to be able to vote because we sometimes disagree. (Hard to believe entering our 51st year). But I’ve read that you will strike out more than one vote from the same address. What should I do?

    • February 19, 2018 - 6:37 pm | Permalink

A couple can vote from the same account. You will not be cast into the outer darkness. But thanks for letting us know!

I had a difficult time choosing today! In the end, my tie-breaker was the need and importance of recognizing more non-whites and women who have all too often been unfairly overlooked, forgotten, and unappreciated throughout history.

The fix is in and you boys should be ashamed of yourselves. Peter’s smackdown of Paul, the only saint with a prayer, paves the way for Pete’s total domination all the way to the final. Mayhap in future years as regards the field and its seeding, you could pass on a day or two of pre-selection pizza and grog to think about who should NOT compete in Lent Madness.

Not getting lent madness on Facebook

  13. February 21, 2018 - 3:34 am | Permalink

I just noticed that LentMadness.org/Widgets needs updating. Not only do the graphical widgets not match the current Lent Madness logo & color scheme, the code thereof references “Lent Madness 2012” in the alt text.

While I can think of a few good reasons and one yuge one to wish it was still 2012, it is definitely MMXVIII not MMXII.
