The Lent Madness quest for world domination ran through the northeast yesterday as NECN (New England Cable News) did a terrific story about our little online devotion. We encourage you to watch the video and share it with all your friends, relatives, and lukewarm acquaintances. In fact, why not go on ancestry.com and send it to all your long-lost kin?
While the interview took place at Tim’s church, St. John the Evangelist in Hingham, Massachusetts, Scott’s happy because his smiling face was shown on camera for a few seconds. This means the next time he shows up at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Southie and orders a “lodge regulah,” he’s sure to be recognized.
Why do we care about getting media attention for Lent Madness? In all seriousness, it’s a way to share our love of God with those beyond the walls of our churches and show the world that we take our faith, but not ourselves, seriously. In a word, it all points to Jesus.
So make some popcorn, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! Well, enjoy the show after the obligatory ad.
You guys are too much! Scott, now I can officially say, “I knew you when…”! Such notoriety seems unbecoming of the purple passion of Lent……NOT!
The thing about this March Madness is that there is not really any competition in it. “Competition” from the perspective of the Saints is like no competition. The saints are in eternity. (Or will be depending on your theology of the resurrection.) That means that over eternity there will be an infinity of Golden Halos awarded. Thus it means that each Saint will win the Golden Halo an infinity number of times over eternity. Thus they will all win the same number of times. How is that kind of competition different to no competition, right? Or look at it from this point of view, the Saints, being saintly, are humble. Thus for them to win is no different to losing because they rejoice in the winning of their brother or sister so much it is the same as winning. Thus if you are a loser you are a winner. Again, where is any competition in this? Just saying.
Exactly! This is for US not for them. I think they would be curious and hopefully interested in the evolution of basketball and the Final Four. Step back, take a breath, and enjoy the absurdity of it all. Absurdity is fun, playful, and this mixes in education. Whoohoo! 🙂
I don’t understand how to watch the video.
i am still having trouble with it. nothing to click on-just a blank screen
oops was looking for it in all the wrong places, it’s not on the 1st pic of Hingham church but on the pic of the lent madness scorecard. The arrow doesn’t show up very good against the shades of gray of the scorecard. Anyway found it and it’s great press coverage! Thanks!
Link to video???
To watch the video, just click the white arrow in the center. If you’re having trouble, it’s likely the device on which you are attempting to view it. For example, I can watch very few videos on my Kindle, but have no problem on my desktop computer. So, try another machine. It just might work. Good luck.
Great video once I found the white arrow.
A really wonderful TV interview. So well explained to those not familiar with Lenten Madness. Glad our church is participating!!
Love the publicity Lent Madness is getting!
Way to go. Lent Madness is all about education of the Saintly people. I think i t is cool that the press is helping make it popular. Thanks for the opportunity to learn.
Well, who woulda thunk it ! All these TV notices about LentMadness Too much! I love it and I will love it even more when you realize that South of the Mason-Dixon line is where many faithful devotees of LentMadness live and vote.
U r so fun…we r loving this education.
How do you watch the video? I clicked on every link I could find including F B and TW. Never found the video.
Love the video Tim!!! As I was explaining to our priest-in-charge this morning, I may be old and moldy (and a cradle) but I don’t have to be morose in Lent!! God laughs — he has to, He made us!!!
Great clip! Thank you, SEC, for adding fun to faith.

What a beautiful church!
Not on TV, but in the Wall Street Journal, 20 March, pages D4-D5 — THEY parody OUR Lent Madness with “The Alumni Bracket”! I can’t find it on the online edition, but you might catch it in the print edition. Good ideas are contagious?
Excellent video.
This is so great. Thanks for dreaming this up. I really love all the learning.
That TV spot was shown last night in Louisville on WAVE TV-3, and I was thrilled to see “Lent Madness” paired with that other form of madness that consumes the people of my city and Kentucky! At least some people here will know that there are some “Crazy Christians” (to use to Bishop Curry’s term) out there dedicated to learning about our saints who were crazy in love of God.
