I don’t want to dangle guilt, poor theology, or reward to propel people into joining Lent Madness. These are all problems tainting evangelism. The chocolate approach is more to my taste, pun intended.
Well, I don’t really get the pun, Grace, unless it’s just the cliche that everyone who’s anyone gives up chocolate for Lent. All I can say is that there’s a fine line between guilt and encouragement and, I trust most would agree, that we fall on the side of encouragement. With a dose of humor thrown in for good measure. I do hope you’ll partake in Lent Madness — it’s a great way to learn about some amazing folks and have some fun in the process.
Absolutely, I plan to be involved… and not for a moment do I think you didn’t get the pun. It’s that I feel more comfortable tweaking someone’s curiosity about LENTMADNESS with something a bit anti-Lenten sounding than hammering them over the head with GUILT… carroting with REWARD… or attributing words to Christ that HE never really said. There are some folks that take these things LITERALLY!! and don’t get the joke or get ANGRY instead, oh my.
